TEAM SSMS: We Choose To Accept This Mission

HEADLINE NEWS

  • Faculty Meeting 8:30 am, October 31, 2012 in the Media Center
  • Deliberate Practice: If you have submitted your deliberate practice plan make sure to log in iObservation and verify that  your plan has either  been approved or returned to you for corrections. All DP plans  will need to be resubmitted by November 2, 2012.   For more information on deliberate practice see Ms. Ciocca and/or visit the Deliberate Practice Tab above.
  • November 2nd with be our Mission Possible-Goal Setting Activity during 1st period. For further questions, see Ms. Ciocca.
  • Check out the Hurricane Weekly!!!
  • Don’t forget to be working on your homework from Mission 1 PD.  You will be meeting again Wednesday, November 7th  so be ready to share your work by that date.
  • Bring your Parents to School Day: Ms. Wells will forward the list of students  whose parent will be participating.  Let her know if you need more chairs for the day by Wednesday, October 31. Please note if the parents are in different periods you may need less chairs than it may appear at first glance.
  • The district has selected the “Cluster Teacher Representatives  for the Instructional Model” which will provide support to the teachers in individual clusters. The teacher representatives are noted in the attached document below.  Note our very own Danielle Hendry…Congratulations!!!

  • A few thoughts on the “Common Core Standards.”  Did you know that …………..?
    Students will need to think critically on a daily basis
    Students will need to perform at levels never before required by state standards
    The Common Core Standards require that by 8th  grade, 55% of reading should be informational text
    Persuasive writing should be a key part of the daily curriculum

  • Hello All and Thanks for a rejuvenating Professional Development Day on Friday.  It was encouraging to see your minds in action, along with “friendly controversy” (Indicator 30). Thank you to all who made this day POSSIBLE!
  • Check out Updates to Hurricane Weekly
  • Deliberate Practice was due October 19, 2012.  If you need assistance, contact Ms. Ciocca
  •  Timeline for entering 1st Quarter Grades…….Grades will be pulled from all gradebooks with due dates of 08/13/12 through 10/18/12 (Thursday). The deadline to enter grades into the system for this calculation is 10/24/12 Wednesday at 10:00pm. (Note: Wednesday, October 24th can be used as an open Wednesday, if needed, in lieu of Small group PLCs, this should be agreed upon within the PLC.)  1st Quarter Report Cards will be printed on 10/25/12 and tentatively scheduled for distribution to students during 1st  period on Friday, October 26,2012.
  • “The Race for The Cure” was a very enlightening opportunity as 12 member of TEAM SSMS walk/ran to support such a worthy cause. Other members participated by manning booths and assisting with the set up. To see the massive number of people at UCF coming together for a common cause is a humbling experience…it left us breathless.

Headline News

  • We will begin to make Announcements via the intercom at the allocated time during 1st Period, effective October 15, 2012.  Additional news items will be stored on the server by Ms. Dombrowski.  It is imperative that students are able to listen and view SSMS News daily
  • Remember this Friday is an important day……October 19th has been designated by our school as a Professional Development Day . The Learning Goal for this day is:  Teachers will understand how our student’s diverse communities impact their learning and be able to implement best practices to meet our Mission Possible…All Students will Have an Annual Learning Gain!

  • The LHHS Cluster, of which SSMS, is a member has passed on a power point presentation that provides a good reference source and examples for the 2012 – 2013 school year. You may wish to save this important item to your desk top computer as a way of  “Getting to Know Marzano’s Teacher Evaluation Model. (Post questions, comments and concerns on this post for community collaboration).

  • FACULTY MEETING: OCTOBER 10, 2012, 8:30 AM, MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM, Be on time, School Board Member Dede Schaffner will be presenting.
  • News Alert!  The  Hurricane Weekly is updated and ready to plug you into our SSMS Community, click on the tab for detailed information.
  • Teachers check out the “Deliberate Practice”  tab as each teachers plan is due on October 17.
  • Give yourselves a “High-Five”.  The Teacher Applause page will be dedicated to recognizing the achievement of your peers or thanking them for lending a helping hand.  This will give us a better understanding and appreciation of the contributions of our coworkers, especially those that you may not directly work with.
  • SSMS Deans Take-Over:  Teachers, on October 9, 10 & 11, Special Agents Coleman-Baker, Ciocca and Sowden have been called to “Active Duty”.  We will collaborate with Leaders throughout SCPS  and sharpen our Inter-Rater Reliability Instructional “Walk-through” skills.

  • Our Fall Social was a huge success!  Thank you for organizing this event Ms. Brantley!
  • The latest version of  the “SCPS Points of Pride”document that reflects various district achievements and awards through the end of the 2011- 2012 school year is found below.

  • Dr. Robin Dehlinger, MS Executive Director, will visit SSMS throughout the school year. She will be visiting classrooms by herself or other SCPS personnel. The rooms will not be pre-selected. Expect her to view classes, listen to children, talk to teachers, view Professional Learning Communities (PLCs),  review the School Improvement Plan (SIP), and ask general questions about the school.
