Hello Hurricanes!!!! This Week’s “STORM TALK” spotlights Sharon Rutherford, ESE teacher.
Tell us about your family. I have twins, Nichole and James (Nichole is four minutes older than James) are 24 years old and my younger son Jesse is 22 years old. They attended Casselberry Elementary, South Seminole Middle, Lyman High School and presently Seminole State College. All three of my children received the Take Stock In Children’s Scholarship through Seminole County Public Schools!
What is something that most people don’t know about you? I attended Chef School at Culinary Institute in Long Island, New York, and was a Pastry Chef. In college I invested four years in learning Sign Language and I am fluent in sign language. I dress up in character costumes, host children’s parties, and face paint happy faces!
Describe what makes you happy. I enjoy cooking holiday, birthday, and family meals with specialty desserts! We enjoy our time together, reminisce about childhood memories, and share our future dreams together! I enjoy scrapbooking and making creative family photo albums.
What brought you to education? Becoming involved in my children’s education and volunteering at my children’s schools inspired me begin a career in education. I have worked as an Exceptional Education Paraprofessional at South Seminole Middle School for fourteen years and Casselberry Extended Day for ten years. This motivated me to continue further and graduate from the Education Preparation Institute program at Seminole State College. I continued the momentum at South Seminole Middle School, became an Exceptional Education Support Facilitation teacher and work at 21st Century after school program!
Tell us about your previous career. I owned and operated a Ladies Consignment Clothing Store in Casselberry for 20 years. It was a valuable experience to grow my own business and serve the Casselberry community and surrounding areas.
CONTINUE TO STORM, Ms. Rutherford!
