This comment was emailed by Danielle Hendry, which inspired the beginning of this page (Thanks Danielle!):
“I want to let you know that Ms. Palermo really stepped up to the plate today. When no sub showed up for Ms. Hernandez’s fourth period class, she gave up 20 minutes of her lunch/plan to take care of those kids. She invited them into her room and even gave them a mini lesson and stuff to work on. She rocks!”

Jessica Brantley and everyone who helped at the Fun Fall Social did a fabulous job! As a former Student Government Advisor, I know how hard it is to organize such a huge event. Kudos to all who helped!! 🙂

    Dr. Coleman-Baker,

I unexpectedly found myself sitting in on a couple of Alexander Nicholas’s chorus classes while waiting for a fundraiser delivery to help out with today. I have to say – I was amazed by the guy. The kids don’t seem like an easy bunch to manage, but he was able to keep them focused and do truly beautiful things with them. He holds them to very high standards and isn’t afraid to deliver constructive criticism, and this has clearly given these kids some training on a caliber they’re not likely to see again. His classes sound amazing, and he’s always pushing them to do their best and to be proud of it. Just wanted to pass along some positive feedback. He’s an amazingly talented guy and I’m honored that my daughter’s in his class.

    “Way to Go Mr. Nicholas”

Hats off to Ms Lieser for a great Fall Concert Production. Your hard work with our students is evident with their performance tonight. Looking forward to the Winter concert on December 10th…

The concert by the band was a great success and the MPR was loaded. This without the beginners and their parents there. Can’t wait to hear the beginning band in the next concert. Just want to thank Mrs. Lieser for all of her hard work. If you did not know, she spend hours before and after school with her band students. Kudos to the Intermediate, Symphonic, and Jazz band and to Mrs. Lieser for a great experience for our students.

High Five to Mr. Anderson and Mr. Hjelle!

I attended a meeting at the ESC last week and I met a parent of a 6th grade student at SSMS. The mom told me how excited her daughter is about Mr. Hjelle’s World Language class and how much she has learned about languages and diverse cultures! The mom was also very impressed with the short story her daughter wrote in Mr. Anderson’s class describing how she felt traveling to the earth’s core. Way to incorporate reading and writing into the Science curriculum! It was fantastic to hear a parent brag about SSMS teachers when I was standing next to our superintendent , Mr. Walt Griffin. A shout out to Mr. Ault and Mr. Baker for organizing a great event to celebrate our AIP students that earned promotion! It was evident that our students were proud of their accomplishments and were calling and texting their families!

Also, a special thanks to Ms. Howard, Ms. Palermo, Ms. Morris, Ms. Kirkman, Ms. Strudgeon, Ms. Bingham, Mr. Ougel, and Ms. Callovi for attending and showing their support:) The students certainly enjoyed seeing their teachers at the event.

I would like to give a big round of applause to Mrs. Lind! She sets a great example for her students by being proactive with their needs. She is quick to come to me with suggestions of strategies that may work with a student that has E/BD in her class. She does a phenomenal job of calloborating with other teachers and assisting them needs they may have. She is always willing to enter the process of trial and error and has her students’ success at the fore front of her mind! Thanks to Mrs. Lind for being proactive and always seeking an answer!!

I agree that Mission Possible was a huge success and it really gave the kids a chance to reflect on their progress and goals. It also made the halls look awesome for today when the parents came to visit. Thanks to all for creating a fun educational event for our school!

This is a shoutout for Susan Coble. Susan has been a huge asset to our Period 4 class this week during essay writing. She’s been able to work with a few students who are way behind due to extended illness, freeing me up to work with those who are further along in the writing process. She even came in on Wednesday (typically, her “paperwork” day) and made a real difference. I know the kids are grateful for her help, too. I’m glad to have such an outstanding co-teacher.

Congrats to Melissa Szentmiklosi and Stacy Strickland for leading our girl’s volleyball team during a successful season. They had a great showing at the county tournament, advancing to the semifinals! Also, thanks to Bobby Adamowicz who came out to support the concession stand and supervise 20+ students present to earn community service!

A big round of applause to Mrs. Lieser and her merry band members! Last night she held her Winter Concert at Lake Howell H.S. There was a very large crowd and everyone enjoyed the great music. Mr. Nicholas was also in attendance and helped with the MC chores. This was her second concert of the season but the first for her beginning band. I would to say there is a lot of talent in the beginning band already. The other bands sounded great and it’s always a thrill to see them come this far in such a short span of time. Nice job Mrs. Lieser and congratulations on a great performance from all of the bands.

Tis the season for concerts! The Chorus concert, entitled “A Season of Joy & Peace” was a big hit last night at Lake Howell H.S. The chorus drew a great crowd and everyone got a little closer to the Holiday spirit. All of the different groups sang and it was really hard to believe that the beginning Chorus was just beginners. There were a number of great solos and the boy’s Malestorm chorus brought a lot of smiles and laughs when they sang “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch”. Mr. Motley was also in attendance enjoying the festivities. Mr. Nicholas has a signature move that the parents really enjoy, he allows the audience to come to the front to take pictures after each group sang. Leave it to Mr. Nicholas to come up with an innovative idea to make his concerts even more memorable. Great job Mr. Nick and thanks for the great night of song!

A big “Job Well Done” by the Science Department. The Science Fair was last night and everything went very well. There was a great deal of parents that attended the event and our school board member Karen Almond even showed up. Students had some very inventive projects and as usual it was hard to judge all of the good projects. The event also included a PTA meeting and free pizza. Thanks also to the PTA for sponsoring the event and providing the pizza.
